Consulting

The Design Study inspects the entire sites, similar to this plant.Whether you need a preliminary risk analysis or require complete no-strike protection, our services are aligned to provide the reliable information you need to fully understand your current situation and move forward with confidence.

Step 1 - Risk Assessment

One or more LEC consultants will visit your site and study a number of key areas. This visit can range from a one day study for simple sites, to a comprehensive multi-day study for large sites with complex electrical systems. Overall cost is based on the scope and complexity of your particular needs.

What’s Involved?

  • Identify areas of concern and desired level of lightning protection
  • Assess vulnerabilities from direct lightning strikes and the effects of nearby strikes or other transient surges:
    • Review past lightning events
    • Examine existing lightning protection and TVSS systems
    • Review existing structures, electrical, communication, and data systems
    • Perform Ground Testing as needed
  • Gather information on site-specific factors such as:
    • Local lightning and storm data (isokeraunic number, flash density data)
    • Environmental variables such as wind and ice loading
    • Corrosive elements encountered on site
    • Existing structural designs and restrictions including aesthetic requirements
    • Site topography

Step 2 - Recommendations & Proposal

Following risk assessment, you will receive a comprehensive consulting report which includes recommendations and budgetary information. As with the time our consultants spend on-site, the report’s level of detail is determined by the scope and complexity of your particular needs.

What You’ll Receive:

  • Lightning risk analysis
  • General recommendations for lightning, grounding, and surge handling as necessary
  • Specific recommendations for an integrated lightning system:
    • Parts list, specifications, and statement of work (customized information is available to meet internal requirements)
    • Conceptual or detailed drawings reflecting the proposed work and parts required
    • Cost estimates for the proposed system
